Abstract

At the suggestion of Dr. J. E. Ackert and Dr. E. J. Frick, an attempt was made to transmit the microfilariae directly to an uninfected dog. This dog was given three intravenous injections of blood containing live microfilariae. The injections which were made at intervals of a week totaled about 12cc of blood or approximately 600 to 1000 worms. At regular intervals the blood of the animals was examined for microfilariae. An estimate of the highest number of organisms found in the dog patient was between 50 and 70 per cc. of blood. The last examination revealed one to five larvae per cc. of blood. In the experimental animal one microfilaria was recovered ten days after the first injection.
