Abstract

Canine cardiac myosin with special reference to pressure overload cardiac hypertrophy. II. Myosin ATPase.

Highlights

  • MYOSIN ATPASE*Overload (Received for publication, March 28, 1978, and in revised form, June 7, 1978)

  • This paper presents enzymatic studies of myosin from left and right ventricles of normal canine hearts and hypertrophic canine hearts at 5 and 13 weeks after aortic banding

  • Our results are comparable with V, determinations of Ca”ATPase and (K’,EDTA)-ATPase, when assayed under similar conditions, for cardiac myosin preparations from a variety of large mammals, there are no other detailed studies comparing myosin from left and right ventricles of the same heart

Summary

MYOSIN ATPASE*

Overload (Received for publication, March 28, 1978, and in revised form, June 7, 1978). At 13 weeks after aortic banding, activities appear normal in left and right ventricle myosin. During left ventricle pressure overload of canine hearts, there are conflicting reports that left ventricle myosin ATPase is diminished [2,3] or augmented [4] and that activity is diminished further [3], or restored to normal (a), during prolonged pressure overload. Right ventricle pressure overload of canine hearts has been reported to result in altered activity of myosin ATPase [5,6,7,8]. This paper presents enzymatic studies of myosin from left and right ventricles of normal canine hearts and hypertrophic canine hearts at 5 and 13 weeks after aortic banding. Data were obtained on the same myosin preparations as used for the structural studies described in the preceding paper [9]
