Abstract

The ACS Committee on Nominations & Elections announced last week that Paul S. Anderson, vice president of drug discovery at Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Douglas J. Raber, senior scholar at the Board on Chemical Sciences & Technology of the National Research Council, will be the candidates in the special interim election being held to fill the ACS Board of Directors vacancy created by the resignation of Joan E. Shields, director-at-targe (C&EN, June 17, page 8). In accordance with ACS bylaws, additional candidates may be nominated by petition. The deadline for petition candidates for the special interim election is Aug. 2. Petitions should be sent to ACS Executive Director John K Crum, 1155—16th St., N.W., Washington, DC 20036. Ballots will be mailed to all ACS councilors on or around Aug. 9, with Sept. 6 the anticipated deadline for return of the ballots.
