Different studies suggested that the gut is the main reservoir from which C. albicans can translocate through the intestinal barrier causing blood stream infections (BSIs) [1]
Given the parallel evolutionary history of C. albicans and humans and the fact that a potential harmful fungus would be subjected to negative selection, it was predicted that intestinal colonization with this yeast may have beneficial effects
