Abstract

AbstractCandida albicans agglutinins and precipitins were examined in sera from 250 blood donors, 51 patients with malignant diseases without candidiasis, and 54 patients with malignant diseases and candidiasis. Agglutinins were encountered in 46.5% of persons without candidiasis, in 58.2% of patients with candidiasis in the oral cavity and/or pharynx and larynx, and in 54.5% of patients with severe candida infections. Agglutinins in titres of ≥8 were found in 34.9% of patients with candidiasis in the oral cavity and/or pharynx and larynx and in 15.0% of persons without candidiasis (0.005>P>0.001). Agglutinins in titres ≥128 were found only in patients with candidiasis, and an increase or a decrease in titre was demonstrated in some patients during the course of the disease. Precipitins were found in 1% of persons without candidiasis and in 20.4% of patients with candidiasis, and most often in sera with high agglutinin titres.
