David Schiff and Patrick Wen, both neurologists with an interest in neuro‐oncology, have assembled over 50 international authors. It is no accident that neurologists specializing in neuro‐oncology are predominantly in the USA and the specialty is only slowly catching on in some European countries. Dr Jerome Posner, one of the founding fathers of this specialty, points out in the Foreword their common thread. Many of the authors go back to his department at the Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center and Dr Posner’s rigour of observation and training.
