Summary

Introduction

There is concern about cancer risk from living near nuclear power plants (NPP). Various reports provide various findings on the subject of cancer rates around nuclear power plants (NPP). An earlier report found no cancer rate differences for an NPP in California, nor did it find any significant releases in radiation near the plant [3]. A study in Germany in 2008, known as the KiKK study, found increased cancer rates in children living near NPPs [4]. The German Radiological Protection Commission conducted an independent reanalysis of the KiKK study and noted several methodological limitations, and concluded that while the reasons for the observed increased risk remained unclear, multiple confounding factors could have been the cause [8]. Similar reviews have been conducted by Canadian [9] and British [10] regulators, who have reached similar conclusions
