Abstract

Response to immune checkpoint blockade cancer immunotherapy is variable, but the mechanisms that underlie this variability remain unclear. In a recent issue of Nature Medicine, Yu etal. demonstrate that liver metastases limit immunotherapy efficacy by promoting macrophage-mediated elimination of tumor-specific CD8+ Tcells. Liver-directed radiotherapy in preclinical models could partially overcome this effect.
