Abstract

An issue of growing importance in Canada is the formation of an appropriate policy for Canadian industrial science. A number of recent official publications have considered the relationship between science policy and industrial growth and have put forward specific "new" directions for Canadian science policy.1 The Report of the Senate Special Committee on Science Policy devotes one whole volume to evaluating Canadian science policy within an historical context. This evaluation leads to specific recommendations for greater encouragement of industrial research and development and for less direct governmental involvement in the process of industrial innovation.2
