Abstract

In this paper, I focus on the need for a comprehensive strategy for Canadianculture that will take us in into the twenty-first century. I attempt to establishthe need for a coherent policy in the cultural sector, and to illustrate that thecultural sector is key to understanding the changing roles of the citizen andthe nation; to education and preparation for life in the knowledge age; to jobcreation in a world in which traditional jobs are quickly disappearing; and tothe way in which Canada will define itself in the twenty-first century. Thepaper is divided into two sections. First, I provide an analysis of the currentenvironment. Secondly, an analysis of some of the issues that must beaddressed will be presented.
