Abstract

Background: While laparoscopic techniques for Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery emerged in the 1990s, the adoption of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in this field has been slow. MIS HPB procedures can be technically challenging and associated with learning curves. Surgical coaching is a growing concept in the field of continuous professional development. We discuss a unique, interactive coaching program aimed for practicing HPB surgeons who wished to introduce advanced MIS skills. We aim to explore the perception of coaching among these surgeons, to assess surgeons’ experience in the coaching program, and to explore the role of coaching in the uptake of MIS in the field of HPB.
