Abstract

This is a report of a presentation on 5th July 2006 by David Tatham. It focuses on introducing the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) and on the ADR procedure of the (then) newly launched .eu domain. The first part provides an excellent introduction to lawyers who may be unaware of the UDRP being used for domain name disputes. In addition, it provides an interesting snapshot of dispute resolution in relation to the .eu domain immediately following the 2006 ‘Land Rush’. The first part begins with a discussion of the history of internet dispute resolution since the inception of the UDRP in 1999. His figures suggest that by July 2006, there had been almost 15,000 decisions relating to disputes over top-level domain names; and the number of disputes has only increased since that time.
