Abstract

According to idempotent analysis, eikonal equations (particular Hamilton-Jacobi equations) are linear in the algebra called Maxplus. After triangulation of the domain (using the software FreeFem) and discretization of the equation, a sparse Maxplus linear system is obtained, which can be solved by an iteration procedure. Scilab's MaxPlus toolbox is used to perform the computations. Plots of the solution are shown. There is a strong analogy with the usual numerical method to solve the Laplace equation. But there are some problems with the convergence from the discrete to the continuous case.
