Abstract

The field of early childhood education is facing an array of contemporary challenges. An expanded base of leadership and support is needed to facilitate the professional advancement of the field. In this article, it is proposed that campus child care programs should assume a greater share of the leadership role. Their potential contributions are conceptualized within the three traditional higher education categories of research, teaching, and community service. Guidelines and recommendations for specific innovations in campus child care activities are described.
