Abstract

CAMPANIFORM organs are common in insects1, where they have been demonstrated to act as proprioceptors2,3. Morphologically they show considerable variation but “In vertical section the cuticular parts of the organs generally have the form of a small dome into which the sense cell process is inserted like the clapper of a bell”1 and the structure of various types is illustrated by Snodgrass1.
