Abstract

AbstractFrom dangerous dogs to dangerous firearms, campaigns to change the law often thrive on media coverage. For in the never‐ending quest for ‘public awareness’ the media can be a useful ally. But, as we all know, the media can also be unreliable; that big launch costing thousands can so easily clash with Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit cancelling their wedding, however rigorous the planning.This paper provides one or two thoughts about the use of the media in campaigning. It will never overcome a celebrity scandal dominating the headlines, but what it will do is guarantee a certain level of coverage, thus enhancing the national media campaign.
