Abstract
To take any photograph you need a camera and lens. This is even true with astrophotography, but in most instances you are dealing with very faint objects where every bit of light counts. The good news is that if you own any type of camera (digital or film) – smartphone, tablet, pocket camera, video, film single lens reflex (SLR), digital single lens reflex (DSLR), mirrorless digital, dedicated astronomical camera, you can take pictures of the day and night sky. For the most part you can take astropics using these types of cameras in Camera Only and Camera and Telescope modes. The only question becomes how good will they turn out, and there may be some limitations as to what you can shoot with the camera and/or lenses you have available as well as what mode you use.
