Abstract

Adiabatic calorimetry measurements carried out with [Mg(H2O)6](NO3)2 showed two specific heat anomalies one at 343 K and one at 363 K. The latter one corresponds to the melting of the substance. Proton magnetic resonance measurements gave evidence of H2O 180°-flips around the Mg-O axes. Quasielastic neutron scattering measurements confirmed the NMR results. Good agreement of correlation times as derived from NMR and QNS was obtained.
