The smectic and cholesteric phase transitions of cholesteryl myristate and cholesteryl nonanoate have been studied by differential scanning calorimetry. We report calorimetric observations related to (i) the focal-conic to blue phase transition (ii), pre-transition phenomena and (iii) supercooling.
