Abstract

The specific heat has been measured for the ternary compounds, RMn2Ge2 (R = Gd. Tb and Dy), which show a ferrimagnetic to antiferromagnetic transition at low temperature. The results were analyzed in terms of the molecular field model including the crystal field effects. It was found that overall features in the magnetic entropy versus temperature curves are well explained by the molecular field model for the present compounds. The origin of various magnetic phase transitions is discussed from the thermodynamical point of view.
