Abstract
The enthalpies and heat capacities of solution for the nonionic surfactant Triton X-100 were measured both in monomeric and micellar states in water at 298.15, 308.15, and 318.15 K. From these data enthalpies and heat capacities of micellization (Δ H m and Δ C p,m) were evaluated at 303.15 and 313.15 K. With an increase in temperature, Δ C p in the monomeric as well as the micellar state decreases, more so in case of the latter. These results have been interpreted in terms of the temperature dependence of hydrophobic hydration of the monomers and the micelles.
