Abstract

The standard formation enthalpy of the Ag-rich alloys from Ag-Li system (Ag90Li10, Ag80Li20, Ag70Li30, Ag60Li40, Ag55Li45 and Ag50Li50) were measured at 723 K with the use of the solution calorimetric method. Alloys were prepared from high purity Ag and Li by melting in a glove-box filled with high purity argon with a very low concentration of impurities. The X-ray diffraction investigations were conducted to confirm the structure of the prepared alloys. Setaram MHTC 96 Line evo calorimeter was used for the determination of the formation enthalpies. The values of the standard formation enthalpy of studied alloys were determined as −3.3 ± 0.3 kJ (mol at.)−1, −7.1 ± 0.4 kJ (mol at.)−1, −9.8 ± 0.5 kJ (mol at.)−1, −10.3 ± 0.3 kJ (mol at.)−1, −11.7 ± 0.6 kJ (mol at.)−1 and −12.1 ± 0.3 kJ (mol at.)−1, for all cited above alloys, respectively. According to the obtained results and those available in the literature, the optimization of the thermodynamic quantities for the solid solution of fcc-(Ag) was presented.
