Abstract
A calorimeter has been developed to measure the total core loss in small samples of magnetic materials which are not suited to conventional measurement techniques. The method is similar to the helium boil-off calorimeter used in some cases to measure ac losses in superconductors. Power losses in the sample are determined by measuring the rate of boiling of a fluid in which the sample is immersed. The sample is in open magnetic circuit. Uncertainty of the method is estimated at 3%.
