Abstract

The effects of Ca 2+ and calmodulin on the adenylate cyclase activity in a particulate fraction from silkworm fat body was examined. Calmodulin from fat body which lacks trimethyllysine stimulates fat body adenylate cyclase similarly to porcine brain calmodulin both in the presence of low concentrations of Ca 2+. The concentration of both calmodulins for half-maximal stimulation of the enzyme is 80 nM. The calmodulin-stimulated activity is suppressed by trifluoperazine ( I 50 = 120 μM). GTP and its hydrolysis-resistant analogue 5′-guanylyl imidodiphosphate have no significant effect on basal or calmodulin-stimulated adenylate cyclase activity.
