Abstract

The discrete nature of the activities involved in complicated structures of Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) requires non-conventional calculating methods to achieve the control actions. A general approach is suggested in this paper, approach based on the First-order predicate calculus. The calculating requirements are classified into : (a) cause-to-effect calculus; (b) deterministic decisional calculus; and (c) algorithmic decisional calculus. Four types of valuating scales are considered : S1 = binary; S2 = multivalent; S3 = real positive, and S4 = non ordered set. Methods are suggested for every combination of calculus type and valuating scale. Some details of these methods are given to emphisize the importance of the identification problem.
