Abstract

ABSTRACT We discuss a pedagogical approach to calculus based on the question: What kinds of problems should our students be able to solve? We include a discussion of types of problems and curriculum “threads” for such a course. We describe a projects-based calculus with examples of projects and classroom activities. * Based on a presentation given at the Conference on the Teaching of Calculus held at Harvard University on 12–13 June 1992.
