Abstract
Calculations and measurements of activation in concrete radiological shielding pro- duced by a high energy ions accelerator. Saturne II synchrotron is located on CEA Saclay site and was running since 1979. It should he dismantled in the next few years. Saturne accelerated protons, deuterons, helions and heavy charged particles (up to Krypton) with protons energie ranged from 100 to 2900 MeV. Monte Carlo calculations (FLUKA) coupled with activationlevolution computer codes (DARWIN/PEPIN) were used in order to pre- dict activation in concrete radiological shielding of the accelerator. Activation prod- ucts are mainly due to (n,-y) capture reaction, 22% of the activation cornes from neutrons with energy higher than 20 MeV - (n,p); (n, spallation) etc. Those calcu- lations were compared to y rays , 3H, Ca and ssFe measurements on samples taken from different concrete shieldings: ordinary (23.5 g ~m-~), heavy with Barium (3,6 g extra heavy with iron (4,8 g ~m-~).
