Abstract

An investigation is made of the main energy characteristics of the field of a partially coherent optical beam propagating in a turbulent atmosphere; the beam intensity on the axis and the beam width. It is found that these characteristics depend on the degree of initial spatial coherence of the beam, the turbulent distortions, and the wave parameter. Numerical calculations are made of the spatial distribution of the beam intensity and simple empirical relationships are derived and discussed.
