Abstract

Temperature conditions in a contact spot of friction with seizure are investigated using a macroscopic self-oscillation model. Both the flash temperature at the friction surface and the thickness of the surface material layer, where the temperature oscillates, are estimated at different loads, sliding velocities, and friction coefficients. The influence of the contact spot size on the flash temperature is studied. The calculated results for steel and copper samples are compared.
