Abstract

A two-dimensional numerical analysis is presented on multiple arrays of evaporating droplets injected vertically within a nonuniform, transient, boundary layer flow field established near a vertical hot plate. The model accounts for two-way interaction between droplets and gas with regard to momentum, mass, and energy exchange. A series of flow arrangements that involve different droplet injector locations and either upward or downward injection are investigated. The model predictions show that leading droplets significantly influence the transport and evaporation of the following droplets, and that droplet interspacing within an array diminishes rapidly with time. The results emphasize that neglecting droplet spacing variations and interchanges between the two phases may lead to severe errors.
