Abstract

It is time-consuming to calculate the transmission parameter (S21) of the rectangle defected ground structure (RDGS), if the conventional serial finite difference time domain method (FDTD) is adopted. In order to make the conventional FDTD more efficient, a parallel FDTD using the parallel virtual machine (PVM) technique and the region segmentation scheme is presented to calculate the transmission parameter of the RDGS. The numerical result shows that the ratio of the acceleration of the parallel FDTD for two and four computers is 1.36 and 2.26 respectively. The results using the parallel FDTD reach an excellent agreement with the ones with the serial FDTD approach. The proposed parallel FDTD approach can be served as a powerful tool to analyze a large scale RDGS.
