Abstract

Approximate calculations of the prompt )I-ray energies of fission fragments and the total kinetic energies of different fragment pairs have been made on the basis of a liquid-drop model. In addition, reliable estimates of the quantum energy for collective quadrupolar vibration have been used to calculate the number of prompt )I-ray quanta emitted by the fragments from the thermal-neutron-induced fission of 235U. There seems to be good agreement with the available experimental data. About 30 pairs of fission fragments from the thermal-neutron-induced fission of 233U, 235U, and 239Pu and the spontaneous fission of 252Cf have been included in this preliminary treatment.
