Abstract

The accuracy of the target designation is crucial for the effectiveness of the anti-ship missile, where the location error of the target is generally supposed to be with normal distribution. In this paper, the probability density function (PDF) of the target location error, in bi-station bearing-crossing locating, is analytically presented, and the result shows that the error is not normally distributed under most circumstances. This is also verified in simulations. Based on the theoretical, as well as the statistical results of the PDF of the target location error, some conclusions are drawn about the potential distribution area of the target in bi-station bearing-crossing locating, which is helpful for target searching and for operational use.
