Sahal-Brechot, S. Abstract It is currently known that the forbidden lines of the solar corona are polarized under resonance fluorescence of the incident anisotropic photo spheric radiation field. In this paper the polarization degree of the infrared lines of Fe xiii is calculated by means of the multipolar expansion of the density matrix of the radiating atomic system over the basis of the irreducible tensorial operators. This basis is in fact the suitable one for the study of the fluorescence radiation, and thus the polarization degree and the total intensity of these lines can be set in a simple form. Numerical results are provided as functions of the various parameters which enter in the calculations.
