Abstract

The paper describes a method for the calculation of the heating and ablation of heat-shielding material on moving grids. The convective heat flux is obtained from the calculation of the external flow according to the Navier–Stokes equations. Validation was carried out on experimental data obtained for the ablation of a sample from POCO graphite in a plasmatron. The calculations showed that both diffusion and sublimation modes exist in the ablation process.
