Abstract
In order to assess the quantitative reliability of the calculation of sound diffraction by the external ear using the boundary‐integral‐equation method [S. Koshigoe and A. Tubis, J. Acoust. Sac. Am. Suppl. 1 73, S76 (1982)], we calculate the directional filter function for the KEMAR manikin external ear. The calculations are based on the assumptions of blocked meatus conditions and the embedding of the external ear in a plane rigid baffle. [Work supported by NSF.]
