Abstract

A general dynamical model of a vertical slender structure with damping is derived, and it is shown how this model may be used to calculate the frequencies, logarithmic decrements and mode shapes for the structure's free vibration. The model is applied to the analysis of a chimney mounted on a resilient seating to increase its damping, and typical results are given.
