Abstract

This paper presents an approach to calculate the bus voltages of a power system. The steady state performance of the power system is described by a system of nonlinear algebraic equations. The traditional methods for solution are based on numerical analysis. They are failed to converge for the cases of high loading and for ill-conditioned systems due to the singularity of the Jacobian matrix. The proposed approach is based on a chaotic whale optimization Algorithm. The solution of the system of nonlinear algebraic equations is tackled as an optimization problem. The proposed algorithm is applied to a heavily loaded standard systems where the traditional method fails to get a steady-state solution. Also, the presented algorithm can be applied to obtain the solutions of a system under large motor starting. The results obtained is an indication of the effectiveness of the proposed approach in solving the steady state of power system for a wide range of loading conditions.
