Abstract
After a brief discussion of the different sparking criterions proposed during the last decades a new semi-empirical criterion for spark breakdown in air at atmospheric pressure is briefly mentioned. The new criterion depends on the ion density and is an extension of the quantitative criterion given by M. O. J orgensen.
