Abstract

Knowledge of the series capacitance of a winding (transformer, reactor or magnet) is essential in order to analyze its transient behavior. A method of computing the series capacitance of a winding is proposed which is mathematically rigorous but simple to execute. As a check, the equivalent series capacitance of a four-turn double-disk winding was computed by the proposed method as well as by simple circuit reduction. This method of calculating the series capacitance was applied to determine the natural frequencies of large magnets.
