Abstract

A new semiempirical method for calculating the quadrupole electronic polarizability of O2– ions in ionic crystals is proposed. The method is based on the analysis of the balance of forces acting on an ion in the crystal lattice. It is demonstrated that the quadrupole electronic polarizability of O2– ions in the LiNbO3 crystal is anisotropic.
