Abstract

The coupling of power fromawaveguide aperture to a highly overmoded rectangular cavity is considered. The load consists of a lossy dielectric sheet that stretches across the entire cross-section of the cavity facing the aperture. The model includes wall loss. By matching the cavity mode solutions to the assumed aperture field, the total cavity field at any point ,:an be evaluated. Consequently, the redistribution of electromagnetic powerfrom the wave guidefeed to the dielectric load can be examined, and the power deposition across the dielectric sheet is calculated. The results are of significance to industrial applications involving microwave heating and calculations are presentedfor a loaded rectangular cavity of dimensions 0.5 x 0.75 x 1.0 (m) and an operating frequency of 2.45 GHz.
