Abstract

A new method of calculation of stress distributions in polarisation-maintaining fibres with different Young's moduli and Poisson ratios in different regions is presented. This method is simple and does not require mesh formulation which is often tedious and inflexible as in the finite element method. The authors apply this method to calculate the phase shift sensitivity of polarimetric fibre sensors. >
