Abstract

Fact that radiation damage is proportional to absorbed energy provides means for calculating MAC (maximum allowable concentration) values for many radioactive environmental contaminants; these calculated MAC values are based on maximum exposure rate of 300 millirem per week, corresponding to absorption of 30 ergs per gram of tissue for beta or gamma radiation.
