Abstract

Deconvolution processing (unmixing) is used to remove the smoothing effects of benthic bioturbation from deep-sea stratigraphic signals. This processing, while restoring lost high-frequency information, strongly amplifies any measurement noise in the data. Equations are provided for straightforward calculation of error bars for unmixed signals. Error tabulations for a range of benthic mixing situations are also given.
