Abstract

The DALY is a metric used to quantify the burden of diseases that cause significant patient disability; DALY value of ‘0=perfect health’ and ‘1=death’. DALYs are useful in assessing the number of healthy years lost due to a disabling condition and inform the impact of treatment interventions across patient populations and the allocation of healthcare resources. DALYs have not been calculated for ISM, a mast cell disease which causes debilitating symptoms and impaired quality of life.
