Abstract

The numerical resolution of the Laplace equation and the ionic trajectory calculations are made in the main cross section of a Nier ion source working without an auxiliary magnetic field but using a transverse atomic beam. The trajectories are computed and plotted with several values of initial energy and coordinates of the starting point. Our present results show fair agreement with the analysis of the process that we made in a previous paper with a simplified pattern of the ion source. We have pointed out and corrected the discrimination caused by the source on the created ions. In this work we have calculated the values of the corrective factors that reduce the ion source efficiency. These factors are calculated from the transmitted ion rate and from the concentration variation in the atomic beam.
