Abstract

The congenital ichthyoses, although rare, tend to be disfiguring and disabling and are extremely difficult to treat. They are minimally responsive to alpha-hydroxy acids and moisturizers, and while they often respond to systemic retinoids, long-term use of retinoids is frought with serious side effects.
