Abstract
In the process of fire brick manufacture, calcination is the most impor-tant process.Coal has so far been used for this brocess, however, it has some undesirable sides for the process control.At Harima Refractory Company, fuel oil has been sub-stituted for coal in calcining fire brick since 1953, and further a tunnel kiln using fuel oil was newly installed.In this paper oil-fi ring furnace is outlined as well as the calcinating operation.It is also described that the cost per ton of the product has been reduced by ¥1, 000-1, 400 substituting fuel oil for coal.
