Abstract

The aim of the present study is to report a case of a large size calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC), compromising the entire upper left jaw. A 13-year-old female patient presented teeth mobility and a maxillary swelling for 6 months. Panoramic radiograph revealed a well-defined radiolucency associated with 2 included teeth, comprising small materials of varying sizes, shapes, and degrees of radiopacity. An incisional biopsy was taken and at the same surgical time, was performed decompression of the lesion and installation of a nasotracheal tube for daily irrigation. Then, the lesion was histologically reported as a COC. Surgery for enucleation and peripheral ostectomy was performed after 6 months of decompression and was satisfactory. Postoperative computer tomography was performed 12 months after the procedure and suggested bone neoformation throughout the lesion enucleation region. This case proved that daily decompression and irrigation performed before the enucleation procedure can be an effective treatment.
